Attorney for the Child

If parents cannot agree on custody or parenting time, it is sometimes helpful to have an attorney represent the interests of a minor child.  If a child requests representation, the parents may agree to retain an attorney or if they do not agree, the court may appoint an attorney for the child.

Payment for an appointed attorney’s services is generally decided by the court.  Depending on a child’s age and maturity, an attorney may be advocating for the child’s best interest (for younger children) or for the outcome the child wants (for older children).

I have experience representing children in both capacities.  I am adept at connecting with children of all ages and helping them through confusing and difficult family transitions.  I can help children discern and articulate their wishes.  I communicate that information and our recommendations to the parents or the court in a way that protects the child from family conflict and the court process.
